I am not really at work today

I am not really at work today, I am still recuperating after my op last Thursday. I feel as though I am neglecting my readers hence my typing a little something.

Last week I planned to read my book Green Weddings but time did not allow on Thursday and after my surgery I was incapable of reading anything as I couldnt wear my glasses. The book is on my list to do - so when I have read it I will be able to give you some insight into it.

Last night I was watching Living TV and managed to get to watch the programme Four Weddings which is a bit like Come Dine with Me whereby 4 brides go to each others weddings and give marks on presentation, venue and food in the hope that one of them will get enough marks to win a honeymoon. I don't normally feel like throwing things at the television but that programme drove me mad. Why do they pick the wierdest people to take part in these programmes? There was nothing about the actual planning but we were given an insight into what each bride paid for their wedding. These varied in price from £3000 to £18000. We had four brides last night - one was painfully thin and wanted an anti-wedding because she didnt believe in getting married in a church - almost as though she would be struck by lightning if she set foot inside one. Her wedding was quite normal and was a bit of a disappointment after all her hype about it. There was another wedding whereby the bride said she was all pink and girly and yet this wasn't what I expected and seemed quite tame although her table decorations were simple pink gerberas and wired white butterflies. One bride was a school teacher who looked as though she would cry at every available opportunity but she was quite smug - her wedding took place in a wonderful castle. My favourite wedding was the bride on a budget - she had stayed fairly true to what she wanted. She married in Warrington Town Hall which is quite a stately building and then it was onto a church hall for the wedding breakfast which was a jacket potato buffet - she had already said that she wanted simple food. The funny thing was that she said all along that she didnt like speeches at weddings and yet she stood up and thanked everybody thus doing the one thing that she hated most. I was so pleased when she won because her wedding was simple and she didnt try and outdo people which is what I thought the others were trying to do.

I have just come back from a trip downstairs to my postbox - only one letter for me today, when I am able to sit in front of a computer for longer than 10 minutes I will have to write a letter in reply. I received a letter and CV from a lady who despite having a degree in sociology wants to work in the field of events organisation - unfortunately, I don't have enough work for one person let alone two at the moment so I shall write her a nice letter and point her in the direction of where to find some events vacancies. I will, of course, keep her details on file until such time that I do get busy and maybe able to pass some work her way.

I am signing off now - I need to take more eye drops (2hourly) and rest my eyes for a bit.

  1. I had a young girl fresh from college wanting to make wedding dresses. I was able to pass her on to a few designers in the area, as like you, have only 1 employee, me!
I guess it's a sign of the times, Denise. Get well soon. x
